Jan Finlayson

Showing in: Wanaka

Wanaka Session 6: Sunday June 30

Jan Finlayson is an outdoor adventurer with a passionate for kaitiaki, stewardship and care of our precious land. She is an advocate for the protection of our backcountry and environment and her conservation work is founded in a deep understanding and drive for appropriate land reclassification, conservation management planning and proactive management of the mounting commercial demands on conservation land.

She is the President of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, the national association that represents and advocates on behalf of 94 clubs and 22,000 members who engage in recreation in our mountains and wild places. Jan has served as the Chair of the Canterbury/Aoraki Conservation Board, on the FMC committee since 2015.

Based in Geraldine, Jan has been an English teacher and partner in a high-country family farm for around 20 years. This experience has given her a deep understanding of the issues in the high country, and a formidable capability to argue for its preservation and wise management.

Her love of tramping and time in the backcountry with friends motivates her work. We look forward to hearing from Jan at this year’s event.
