Session 6

14 minutes, Director: Nathalie Nasrallah, NZ.

On March 26, 2019 heavy rainfall caused a bridge to collapse in Westland, blocking a main highway and shutting off access to surrounding towns. The force of the flooding caused a historic landfill to wash rubbish down 21 km along the Fox River out to the Tasman Sea, spreading across 70 km of coastline including a marine reserve. This spill has been named one of the worst ecological disasters in New Zealand’s history.
