Our Festival’s world-renowned adventure filmmakers’ competition is now accepting entries. There is over $3,000 in prize money across several different categories. We’d really appreciate the opportunity to view your work for pre-selection. Film entries close on April 30 and Book entries close on March 30.
The Film Maker competition is a competitive event bringing the best adventure films about remote places, the environment, extreme sports and their spirit of adventure from around the world to the alpine villages of Wanaka and Queenstown, New Zealand. The festival provides an opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their work, receive merit and win cash prizes. All films selected as finalists will be screened at our festival in June 29 to July 4, 2018.
The theme is: Adventurous Sports and Lifestyles however subject matter is extremely broad and we accept entries as long as there is a link with adventurous sports or people, and take place in the world’s mountains, lakes, rivers, oceans or skies. Mountain climbing, rock or ice climbing, caving, kayaking, white water rafting, base jumping, paragliding are all acceptable content.
Books and Essays
Our 3rd annual Mountain Book Competition aims to celebrate adventurous sports and lifestyles through books and literature. The event acknowledges authors, publishers and writers from NZ and around the globe with cash and awards and promotion.
The Magazine Article Award involves submitting a short form essay with mountaineering, climbing or adventure themes under 3,000 words. Articles may be fiction or non-fiction and be submitted by individual authors, publishers or editors. Articles must have NOT been previously printed or published online (English editions only). $250 cash prize.
Book categories include: Mountain or Adventure Fiction & Poetry and Mountain or Adventure Literature, Non-Fiction, with a $500 award for the Grand Prize book.
